Movies for Christmas – A Christmas Carol (2009) – 19 December 2016

This is a very good rendition of the classic story by Charles Dickens. What makes it different from other versions is that it is a fully animated 3D movie and stars Jim Carrey as the voice of multiple characters – including Ebenezer Scrooge as a young, middle-aged, and old man, and the three ghosts who haunt Scrooge.

Synopsis: The story follows Miser Ebenezer Scrooge who absolutely hates Christmas. Christmas Eve he is awakened by ghosts who reveal to him his own miserable existence, what opportunities he wasted in his youth, his current cruelties, and the terrible fate that awaits him if he does not change his ways.

More on the original book – A Christmas Carol: A Christmas Carol is a novella by English author Charles Dickens. It was first published by Chapman & Hall on 19 December 1843A Christmas Carol tells the story of a bitter old miser named Ebenezer Scrooge and his transformation resulting from a supernatural visit by the ghost of his former business partner Jacob Marley and the Ghosts of Christmases Past, Present and Yet to Come. The novella met with instant success and critical acclaim. The book was written and published in early Victorian era Britain, a period when there was strong nostalgia for old Christmas traditions together with the introduction of new customs, such as Christmas trees and greeting cards. Dickens’ sources for the tale appear to be many and varied, but are, principally, the humiliating experiences of his childhood, his sympathy for the poor, and various Christmas stories and fairy tales.
