Movies for Christmas – Nativity! – 17 December 2017

“Nativity!” was one of those “surprise” movies that I saw per chance and wow – what a delight. I had such a good laugh – the actors were brilliant and the children were incredibly entertaining. This is a definite recommendation for Nerdipop Christmas Countdown.

Nativity! is a British comedy directed by Debbie Isitt and released on 27 November 2009. The film stars Martin Freeman and Ashley Jensen. The film is written by its director, Debbie Isitt, but is also partially improvised. The film premiered on 23 November 2009 in the SkyDome Arena,Coventry, England. It was released in cinemas on 27 November three weeks after rival festive film Disney’s A Christmas Carol opened. A sequel Nativity 2: Danger in the Manger was released in 2012 and director Debbie Isitt has confirmed there will be a third, with filming starting in November 2013. (wikipedia)

Synopsis: Martin Freeman (who also plays Bilbo Baggins in the Hobbit) plays lovelorn teacher Mr Maddens, a former am-dram star whose girlfriend (Ashley Jensen) dumped him over Christmas five years ago and left, bizarrely left to go to Hollywood. Christmas cheer is not his strong point but he’s forced to direct the Nativity play by headmistress, Pam Ferris.
