Netflix is returning to the “Twilight” universe with an animated adaptation of Stephanie Meyer’s 2020 novel Midnight Sun, which retells the events of Twilight from Edward Cullen’s perspective. This adaptation is a dramatic departure from the live-action blockbusters that dominated popular culture in the late 2000s.

Lionsgate Television is developing the animated series, with Meyer serving as an executive producer, alongside Sinead Daly, recognised for her work on The Walking Dead: World Beyond and Tell Me Lies. Daly will also write for the show.

By concentrating solely on Edward’s psychological conflicts and his relationship with Bella Swan, the initiative offers a novel perspective on the well-loved vampire romance and gives viewers access to a deeper level of mental exploration than the original films or books did. With over a million books sold in its first week, Midnight Sun has already generated excitement in the book industry, demonstrating that there is still a significant market for Twilight-related content.

Although the voice actors’ identities are yet unknown, it seems doubtful that Robert Pattinson or Kristen Stewart will return to their parts given their recent disassociation from the franchise.

When the show premieres on Netflix, viewers can anticipate watching well-known moments through a fresh, more reflective perspective.
